Mr Pilcrow is the alter ego of Iain Ferguson. By this we mean that Mr Pilcrow has an ego while Iain is still searching for his id under couches and in the attic.
Mr Pilcrow is a figment of the imagination but no less opinionated for being so. He is a performer who struts upon the page, searching for meaning in a phrase, defending the traditional rights of semicolons against all-comers but welcoming the poetry of slang.
The eponymous pilcrow is the family crest: the backwards P is the symbol for a paragraph break, signifying the need to pause from time to time to consider what we are going to say next. Ideally, that pause makes our communication more successful.
Here we should pause.
And here is a biography
Etchings on this site by French artist Gustave Doré. Fabulous stuff in every sense of the word.
